November 2009 in Pavón, Province of Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine football player , who with the national team of his country at the FIFA World Cup 1962 took part. Career

Club career

Héctor Facundo was accepted into the first team of the Bonaren club CA San Lorenzo de Almagro in 1956 at the age of 18 . In the following eight years until 1963 Facundo, who acted in the position of a striker, was active for San Lorenzo de Almagro and won the Argentine championship once. In the 1959 season they were first with seven points ahead of the Racing Club from Avellaneda . As a result, San Lorenzo de Almagro, where Facundo played together with other South American football greats of the time such as the Argentine attackers José Sanfilippo and Norberto Boggio or Paraguay's midfield director Ángel Berni , was eligible for the Copa Libertadores 1960 , the first of its kind. In the playoff of the semifinals, San Lorenzo lost to Uruguayan CA Peñarol , who won the South American Club Team Cup against Olimpia Asunción from Paraguay a little later . San Lorenzo was only slightly inferior to Montevideo , according to the rule applied today, according to which the higher number of away goals with the same goal difference is decisive, they would have even been in the final, because they played 1-1 in Montevideo and drew at home goalless.

Héctor Facundo played for CA San Lorenzo de Almagro until the end of 1963 and came to a total of 121 league games for the club, where he got 28 goals. For the 1964 season he went to city rivals CA Huracán , where he made another fifteen games in the Primera División in the following two years , but did not make it to a regular player. In 1965, Héctor Facundo ended his active football career at the age of only 28.

National team

Between 1959 and 1962, Héctor Facundo was used seven times in the Argentine national football team . He scored one goal during that time. This one goal decided the Argentine team's opening game at the 1962 World Cup in Chile , which coach Juan Carlos Lorenzo's team won 1-0 against Bulgaria . Facundo was the only goalscorer of the game at Estadio El Teniente in Rancagua in the fourth minute . Due to a 1: 3 defeat against England and a 0: 0 against Hungary , the Argentine team was eliminated from the 1962 world tournament as third in the group after the preliminary round. After the World Cup, Héctor Facundo's national team time also ended.
