Geographical location

Hönbach is located directly on the Thuringian-Bavarian border, halfway between the city center of Sonneberg in the Lower City in the northeast and Neustadt's city center in the southwest. The Coburg – Ernstthal railway on the Rennsteig runs through Hönbach . The Burned Bridge is located south of Hönbach . The place is laid out as an anger village.

history

Hönbach was first mentioned in a document in the land register of 1317 as "hornbeam". The name of the district therefore has nothing to do with a brook like the Röthen , on whose lower terrace the place lies. In 1884 a new school building was inaugurated.

Hönbach was incorporated into Sonneberg for the first time on December 1, 1922, but was outsourced again on February 1, 1984 due to its close proximity to the inner-German border, which ran less than 500 meters from the town center. Schooling in the local school ended on July 5, 1973. On June 30, 1994 the new incorporation to Sonneberg followed.
