history

Main building of the former tuberculosis sanctuary forest recreation

The Sonneberg Castle is said to have been built around 1200. In 1207 a ministerial from Giech was named who administered the Sonneberg Castle. This could also be a date for the first mention of the Wehd, because no clue has been found in the literature. The castle stood on the Schlossberg. Its location on the southern edge of the Franconian Forest made it possible to control the roads coming from the Main Valley . The castle fell into disrepair as a result of a lightning strike in the 17th century. The tower dates from around 1844. The Wehd has a day-care center.
