Albert John "Bert" McCaffrey (born April 11, 1894 in Listowel , Ontario ; † April 15, 1955 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Toronto St. Patricks , Pittsburgh Pirates and Canadiens in his active time from 1916 to 1933 de Montréal has played in the National Hockey League . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Bert McCaffrey began his career as an amateur ice hockey player with several teams in the senior league of the Ontario Hockey Association . There he played for a year between 1916 and 1920 for the Toronto Riversides, Toronto Crescents, Toronto Dentals and the Parkdale Canoe Club. From 1920 to 1924 the defender ran in the OHA for the Toronto Granites , with whom he won the Allan Cup , the Canadian amateur championship, in 1922 and 1923 . With the Granites he represented Canada at the 1924 Winter Olympics. From 1924 to 1927 he played for the Toronto St. Patricks of the National Hockey League .

The 1927/28 season began again McCaffrey in Toronto before he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Pirates in December 1927 within the NHL . He stayed there for two years before being given to the Canadiens de Montréal in December 1929 in exchange for Gord Fraser . With the Canadiens he immediately won the prestigious Stanley Cup at the end of the 1929/30 season . Also the 1930/31 season began the Canadian with the Canadiens in the NHL. Although his team won the Stanley Cup again and he had played enough games, his name was not engraved on the cup because it was given to the Providence Reds from the Canadian-American Hockey League in the middle of the season . In the CAHL he last played for the Philadelphia Arrows from 1931 to 1933 , before ending his career at the age of 39.

International

For Canada McCaffrey took part in the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix , where he won the gold medal with his team.
