Georgshütte is a district of the town of Sonneberg in the Sonneberg district in Thuringia .

location

Georgshütte is located in the lower part of the Ölsetal. In terms of traffic, it is connected to the state road 1150 .

history

In 1741 Georgshütte was first recorded. In 1901 Friedrichsthal, Eschenthal and Georgshütte merged to form the municipality of Eschenthal . In 1994 it was incorporated into the municipality of Engnitzthal , in 1997 into the municipality of Oberland am Rennsteig and finally in 2014 into the city of Sonneberg.

The blast furnace was built in 1741. A sawmill followed that has since been demolished. A small furniture manufacturer came to terms with its production rooms that burned down in 2010. This meant the end.

Georgshütte received its place name in 1860 from the then Hereditary Prince and later Duke Georg II of Saxony-Meiningen .

The blast furnace in Georgshütte was built in 1741, which for a long time belonged to the Baumännische Hammerwerke in Friedrichsthal. The heyday of the Bernhardshütte iron rolling mill was also of great importance for the blue furnace in Georgshütte, because it supplied the Bernhardshütte with pig iron and was also shut down shortly after it was closed. The Georgshütte sawmill was later built on the site and has since been demolished. A small furniture manufacturer was able to develop quite successfully in the center of the village until the death of the owner up to around 1994. Storage rooms were created on the company premises. A major fire at the end of 2010 brought this branch of industry to a standstill.

The valley from Georgshütte to Friedrichsthal was formerly called the “valley of the old people”, the age in this area was above average.
