Wolkenrasen is a district of the city of Sonneberg in the district of Sonneberg in Thuringia .

Cloud lawn is located south of the Sonneberg core town, largely on the districts of Oberlind and Hönbach . The federal road 89 leads past the district. The train station is on the northern edge, the Medinos Clinic on the north-eastern edge. The district is characterized in the north by monolithic row buildings from the 1950s and 1960s and in the south by prefabricated buildings from the 1970s and 1980s.

Cloud lawn, development on Göppinger Strasse

The story of Wolkenrasen began in 1953 with the GDR's new residential construction program in Sonneberg on the former Oberlinder Flur. It was created by an urban planning concept of Herbert Schmidt and a collective of Suhl the cross next residential area of the GDR, a few hundred meters from the inner-German border from 1961 to 1972 and in the boundary restricted area lying. Schools and supply facilities for the people who live there were also built in cloud grass. In 1985 around 10,000 people lived in 3,400 residential units in cloud grass; in 2010 it was around 5,500.
