Höningen (Cologne-Rondorf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Höningen is a town in the south of Cologne .

location

Like the two localities of Giesdorf and Hochkirchen, Höningen is administratively part of the Cologne district of Rondorf in the Rodenkirchen district due to its small population .

In the west, Höningen borders on Cologne's Eifeltor freight station , the Konraderhöhe industrial area and the Kalscheuren district , which belongs to the city of Hürth , in the south on the Cologne district of Meschenich , in the east on the core of the Cologne district of Rondorf and in the north beyond the federal highway 4 on the Cologne districts Zollstock and Raderthal .

In addition to a purely residential area with single-family houses, a few agricultural farms and a number of smaller commercial buildings, a large part of the area belonging to Höningen has been made up of allotment gardeners that have been organized since 1960 and border directly on Cologne's green belt . In the south of Höningen there are also the Konraderhof stud farm and the Steinneuerhof cemetery complex.

Due to the street prostitution north of Höningen that is prevalent along federal highway 51 , the entire area of the village including the surrounding areas is designated as a restricted area.

history

Even during Roman times , people lived permanently in today's Höningen, as is shown by finds from a country house and graves. Along the old military road , which by today's yardstick in the center of Cologne led, developed later during the Frankish period a hamlet with several estates.

Höningen was first mentioned in documents in 941, when the Archdiocese of Cologne donated farmland in the village to the Sankt-Cäcilien-Stift . Around 1880, Höningen, belonging to the Rondorfer mayor's office in the Cologne district , consisted of the Schiffhof on Leichweg, the Kaimersgut and Essershof on Brühler Landstraße and the Engelsschmiede on Militärringstraße.

In 1985, the first British boarding school on German soil was built on Kapellenstrasse between Höningen and Rondorf .
