The Hütten- und Walzwerk-Berufsgenossenschaft (HWBG) was a commercial professional association and thus the carrier of the statutory accident insurance . It was founded in 1885 as the Rheinisch-Westfälische Hütten- und Walzwerk-Berufsgenossenschaft . On January 1, 2011, it merged with the wood trade association , the mechanical engineering and metal trade association and the trade association for metal north south to form the trade association for wood and metal (BGHM). Today, the BGHM is one of nine commercial trade associations in Germany.

From 1994 until the merger, the HWBG formed an administrative association with the mechanical engineering and metalworking trade association , whose head office was located in Düsseldorf. In addition, the HWBG, together with the Maschinenbau- und Metall-BG and the BG Metall Nord Süd, belonged to the Association of Metal Employers' Liability Insurance Associations (VMBG) from January 1, 2001 until its dissolution on December 31, 2010.

The HWBG was responsible for companies which on warm roads iron , steel and non-ferrous metals produce as well as for companies that iron, steel and non-ferrous metals processed into semi-finished and rolled products.
