HAT-P-6 is a star system in the constellation Andromeda. The system is about 650 light years (200 parsecs ) away from Earth , the star is of the spectral type F, which means that it is larger and hotter than our sun . The apparent brightness of 10.5 m is not enough to make the star visible with the naked eye, the absolute brightness is +4.0 M , which is significantly brighter compared to the sun (+4.83 M ). Other names for the star - depending on the catalog - are GSC 03239-00992, 2MASS J23390581 + 4227575, TYC 3239-992-1.

Planetary system

The companion of HAT-P-6 with the systematic designation HAT-P-6b passes in front of its star from our perspective , which leads to a slight decrease in the brightness of the star, whereby the existence and orbital period of the object can be proven (transit method) . HAT-P-6b was discovered on October 15, 2007, has a mass that is 5.7% higher than that of Jupiter , has a 33% larger radius than Jupiter and a density of 0.45 g / cm³. The low density is caused by the intense heat radiation that the planet receives from its sun and that allows it to expand. Therefore, the planet belongs to the category of "hot Jupiter", the hot planets that are very similar to Jupiter. The planet needs 3.85 days to orbit its star and is only 0.05235 AU away from its sun.
