The much better researched companion of HD 196885 is called HD 196885 Ab and is a planet that is at least three times as heavy as Jupiter (at least 2.96 times Jupiter's mass). It was discovered using the radial velocity method and takes 1,349 days to orbit the central star . At the moment (2013) it is only known about HD 196855 B that it is a red dwarf star .
