Other names V428 Andromedae

HD 3346 , variable name V428 Andromedae , is a giant star in the constellation Andromeda, about 700 light years from Earth . With an apparent magnitude of 5.14 mag, it can only be seen with the naked eye under optimal conditions.

Possible companion

At the beginning of the 1980s it was found that the radial speed of HD 3346 varied with a period of around 600 days, which was attributed to the presence of an accompanying object. According to speculation, this fluctuation could be caused by a companion with a minimum mass of about 60 Jupiter's masses and a semi-major axis of about 2.5  AU .
In addition, a variation of the radial velocity with a period of a few to a few dozen days was also found in 1996. This could be explained with an object with at least 10 Jupiter masses and a major semi-axis of 0.2 to 0.4 AU. But it could also be the result of other causes, such as acoustic pulsations.
The existence of companions around HD 3346 has not yet been confirmed.
