HaGü Schmitz

Gerhard Hans-Günther Schmitz (born January 15, 1957 in Bergheim , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German composer and music producer . He is also the editor of the music magazine Xound .

Life

Schmitz received a musical education on the accordion at the age of six. In 1969 he started playing guitar, bass and keyboard. He later studied composition and arrangement at the Cologne Conservatory.

After gaining band experience, he achieved his musical breakthrough in 1985 as the bass player in the Neue Heimat group with the song Sehnsucht (Ich will raus) composed by him, sung and written by Purple Schulz .

In 1985 he founded the Bo Bo Zero project with Michael Büttgen , which was renamed 2nd Secret Affair after three singles. In 1990 the album "Running In The Night" was finally released, on which Hubert Kah also played alongside many well-known studio musicians .

Schmitz has been working increasingly as a producer since the early 1990s. Among other things, he produced two Billi Myer albums for Sony BMG , remixes z. B. for the Guano Apes , worked with musicians such as Michael Cretu , Marijke Amado , Patrik Majer or Andru Donalds and composed the song for the RTL Bible clips Elana. In total, his productions have sold over 13 million times. His song "Hold On" can currently be heard on the worldwide successful album "Evacuate the Dancefloor" by the group Cascada .

Since 2002 he has published the music magazine Xound. It is aimed at musicians, those interested in music and producers. Schmitz is the producer of the Cologne alternative rock band Glasgarten.
