Haageocereus pacalaensis is a species of plant in the genus Haageocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the occurrence of the species in the Peruvian place Pacala .

description

Haageocereus pacalaensis grows as a shrub with several upright, yellowish green shoots branching out from the base and reaching a diameter of 10 to 12 centimeters. There are 17 to 20 ribs . The two to four strong central spines are gray and 1 to 7 inches long. The up to 25 fine, radiating, gray radial spines have a length of up to 1 centimeter.

The white flowers reach a length of up to 10 centimeters. The spherical, reddish green fruits have a diameter of up to 8 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Haageocereus pacalaensis is common in Peru in La Libertad at altitudes of 50 to 250 meters. The species grows in two isolated occurrences, one north and one south of Trujillo .

It was first described in 1936 by Curt Backeberg . A nomenclature synonym is Binghamia pacalaensis (Backeb.) Werderm. (1937, incorrect name ICBN -Article 11.4).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
