Haewon and the Men (original title: Nugu-ui Ttal-do Anin Haewon , intl. Title: Nobody's Daughter Haewon ) is a 2013 feature film by the South Korean director Hong Sang-soo . The film is about beauty and friendship , Love and relationship that play a big role in the life of the student Haewon. The film plays with the levels of dream, rumor and reality.

action

The student Haewon dreams of becoming a beauty queen or at least finding a man. In dreams or in reality, their path leads them to the same places (a bookstore, a park, a fortress ruin), where they meet different people.

After her relationship with a fellow student ends and her mother goes abroad, Haewon feels left alone. Now the question arises for her, with whom she would like to have a relationship. With her professor, with whom she had a one-night stand a long time ago and who is fond of her, but does not stand by her in public because he is married himself? Or maybe with a divorced professor from America whom she hardly knows? Or neither?

It remains to be seen whether everything we see in the film isn't just a dream.

Reviews

“The flying change between cheerful and tense situations may correspond to the uncertain status of the respective sequences - what is dream, what is present, what is memory - but such assignments lead more into a labyrinth than to the fair anyway. The point and salvation is to get lost. Nobody's Daughter Haewon functions less as an episode or as an outlet, rather it is its sublimated form, which enriches life without making it forgotten, which abducts without distracting attention. The film grows almost unnoticed and it reverberates. "
