The Hafrafell is a volcanic mountain in the west of Iceland , more precisely in the highlands . It reaches a height of 1164 m .
location
The mountain is located south of the driveway to the Kaldidalur highland slope and about 15 km southeast of Húsafell .
Hafrafell closes west between the rivers Hvítá and Geita to the ice cap of Langjökull on.
geology
It is a palagonite mountain with steep, eroded slopes. It used to be covered by the Langjökull glacier.
Presumably it originated in one or more volcanic eruptions similar to those of Grímsvötn in 1996.
Rockclimbing
Although Hafrafell is quite steep and eroded, it can still be climbed via the Langjökull glacier ( starting from the Jaki hut on Langjökull in an arc to the northwest).
