Hagen Drasdo (* 1952 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German artist, communication designer, museum planner and exhibition designer.

Life

Hagen Drasdo studied design at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and art history in Cologne . In 1980 he founded his first studio, the "Institute for Applied and Applied Art" in Düsseldorf . In addition to his work as a graphic artist, he does freelance artistic work, large photos, group and solo exhibitions. After a fire in the warehouse, he completely renounced exhibitions in 1994. The ashes came in lead cartridges and were buried: the end of the song.

This is followed by poster campaigns on large areas under the motto “Thoughts” together with the artist Manfred Spies . From 1983 to 1985 he developed and realized "Kunstmobil" in collaboration with the artist HP Alvermann : a new mobile art mediation .

From 1985 draft planning, realizations, corporate identities for industrial companies and the constant further development of visitor-oriented communication followed. For the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen (today's K20) he is developing a series of exhibitions and publications under the motto “Seeing Pictures - Another Approach to Art”.

1990 followed by the establishment of his second office: The design office Drasdo Düsseldorf. The main focus of work is the design of exhibitions and complex corporate identity programs for institutions in the field of culture: museums, ministries and foundations. To this day, Hagen Drasdo pursues seminars in the field of qualification for employees of institutions: Professional communication in museums, lectures, workshops and seminars, seminars in institutions of the health care and culture on the topic: Design as a strategic instrument.

Mediation

For over 25 years, Hagen Drasdo has specialized in conveying difficult content. "Art mobile" represents the first phase. The visitors to this mobile exhibition unit should have the opportunity to get a museum mediation at any place and place. “Art mobile” consists of an exhibition unit with trucks, containers, tents, music, catering, exhibition space and screen printing system, and exhibitions on art development in the 20th century are also shown. Germany-wide appearances follow.

Together with the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen , educational exhibitions were created for which there were accompanying publications, including “ David Smith - Sculpture”, “Seeing Red!”, “The Inner View of Surrealist Art” and “ Picasso ”.

Building on his many years of experience as a museum planner and exhibition designer, the new edition of the worldwide traveling exhibition he had designed in 1986 followed in 2007: a commented reconstruction of the Düsseldorf exhibition of 1938, entitled "The Suspicious Saxophone" - Degenerate Music in the Nazi State, together with the musicologist Albrecht Dümling , the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Tonhalle Düsseldorf .

Since 1998 he has been in charge of the Edwin Scharff Museum in Neu-Ulm, the aim of which is to convey complex content and structures to visitors using modern museum educational methods. As part of this work, the exhibition “Just standing around and being naked? Discover sculpture! ”. The exhibition encouraged playful discovery. It showed that the cliché “just stands around and is naked” is a far too one-dimensional view of the genre of sculpture . The exhibition takes a look at the development of sculpture in the 20th century, reveals the secret of the bronze casting and shows that today, mountains of candy by Félix González-Torres or the “One Minute Sculptures” by Erwin Wurm also belong to the sculpture. The strong communication work was also continued with the Wilhelm Busch exhibition, which had several thousand visitors after a few weeks.

In 2005, the Bavarian Museum Prize was awarded to the Museum in the Kulturspeicher Würzburg , which Drasdo has been in charge of since it was founded in 2002. The Bavarian Museum Prize 2005 honored not only the presentation of the collection, but also the didactic communication and museum educational work in connection with the comparison of the two collections that the museum houses.

In 2013 he and his daughter Katharina Drasdo founded the studio "Drasdos - Form Follows Us" which specializes in social design, culture identities and web development.
