Hagenhufendorf

A Hagenhufendorf or Bachhufendorf , also Hagenhufensiedlung or Hägerhufensiedlung, is an elongated settlement , similar to the row village , along a road that runs parallel to a brook, with the road only being built on on one side, while on the opposite side of the road the towel-shaped arable land belonging to the courtyards from 20 to 40 acres in size, the hooves are lying. Hagenhufensiedlung are a planned form of settlement from the High Middle Ages, which consists of broad strips of property lined up next to one another. The hooves were as wide as the yard, and often extended over several hundred meters.

The term probably comes from the Hagenrecht , after the owners had a right to contain the land received for use. The Hägerrecht, which applies to the Hägerhufensiedlungen, goes even further. There is a Hägerjunker and special Häger dishes.

The plot of land is used as a cottage garden and for keeping small animals. The stream adjacent to the rear provides the necessary water. This type of settlement created elongated street villages such as Auhagen , Wiedensahl , Obershagen , Isernhagen , Kathrinhagen or Rodewald in Lower Saxony. There were Hagenhufensiedlungen from Taunus to Western Pomerania . The foundations of the Hägerhufensiedlung are limited to one area in the area from the Weserbergland to the Leinebergland and the Lipperland .

Emergence

The Hagenhufendörfer emerged mainly in the 13th century through the planned settlement of forest areas with the aim of reclaiming the land. These villages have a locator with a double hoof. The Hägerhufensiedlungen go back to the Eschershausen contract from the 12th century and had no double hooves and no locator, but a special Häger right.

distribution

Hagenhufendörfer are particularly well-known in the area of the Börde , the most famous region with a large number of such villages is the region around Stadthagen , which itself was founded as a planned city in the middle of the plains between Schaumburger Wald and Bückeberg to be settled . The Hägerhufensiedlungen of the Ithbörde can no longer be seen in the landscape today.
