Hale Appleman
Hale Isaac Appleman (born January 17, 1986 in New York City ) is an American actor .
Life
Hale Appleman graduated from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania .
He made his first stage experiences in the plays Streamers by David Rabe at the Roundabout Theater Company in New York City, Clifford Odets Paradise Lost at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge and as Jesus at the New York premiere of the play Passion Play by Sarah Ruhl .
At the 2011 Berkshire Theater Festival he played the bob in Michael Weller's Moonchildren and in 2012 he was involved in the setting of Sam Shepard's Buried Child for LA Theater Works . Appleman then appeared at The Old Globe Theater as Mercutio in The Last Goodbye.
Appleman made his film debut in 2006 in Beautiful Ohio and two years later he portrayed comic book artist Judd Winick in Pedro . In 2012 he played Zach in the TV series Smash .
He gained fame for his role as Tobey Cobb in the movie Teeth - Who Bites Last Bites Best and as the magician Eliot Waugh in the television series The Magicians . Hale Appleman read the trilogy before going to audition and was really keen to get the role of William 'Penny' Adiyodi , whom he describes as a person with ' Clockwork Orange level attitude'. But in the end he got the role as Eliot . Amazingly, Arjun Gupta auditioned for the role of Eliot , but received the role of Penny .
