The Kelkheim-Münster stop on the Königsteiner Bahn is located in the Kelkheim district of Münster , on the western edge of Frankfurt am Main .

history

On February 20, 1902, the Kelkheim-Münster station went into operation with the inauguration of the small railway line from Königstein to Höchst . He had an intersection track for trains meeting each other, a goods shed track and an open loading track and a total of six switches.

After Munster was incorporated into Kelkheim, Munster station was renamed Kelkheim-Süd in 1938 and Kelkheim-Munster in 1946 .

In 1980 the regular train crossings were relocated to the Kelkheim station and the crossing track in Münster became obsolete. In 1981 elevated platforms were built in preparation for an S-Bahn-like traffic. The crossing track and the remaining freight track were dismantled in 1985. Since then, the station has only been a stopping point .

In 1990 the city of Kelkheim acquired the building from the Frankfurt-Königsteiner Eisenbahn AG in order to expand it into a cultural center. In the period that followed, the building and the adjoining warehouse were extensively converted and converted into a cultural meeting point. This started operations on February 21, 1996 and has been run by the Kulturgemeinde Kelkheim e. V., the VHS Kelkheim, the cultural department of the city of Kelkheim as well as for private events. In addition to two conference rooms, it also has a larger hall, which is located in the former warehouse. The reception building is a cultural monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act .

The Hessische Landesbahn operates the Königsteiner Bahn in the network of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund as RMV line 12 . To make the line more attractive, it now also runs on the Taunus Railway between Frankfurt-Höchst and Frankfurt Central Station . It is now an important addition to the Rhein-Main S-Bahn . The Frankfurter Verkehrsverbund (FVV) ran the line between 1989 and 1995 under the name K-Bahn .

HLB trains run every half hour on weekdays, and only every hour on Sundays and public holidays. For operational reasons, the trains run mainly as RMV line 15 from / to Grävenwiesbach / Brandoberndorf during peak traffic times.
