Since April 2005 the Biesboschcentrum in Dordrecht has been operating an environmentally friendly and handicapped accessible passenger boat with hybrid drive , the so-called whisper boat Halve Maen , named after a former VOC ship Halve Maen . "Halve Maen" means both crescent moon and ship swing in the Dutch language.
The Halve Maen is a passenger and party boat for 150 passengers, in which a hybrid drive of this size was installed for the first time. The fuselage is made of 6 mm sheet steel with a plastic mountain plate. As long as the boat is sailing on the river, it is powered by diesel-electric technology . When driving in the Biesbosch nature reserve , the system switches to a purely electric drive and the boat glides almost silently through the water. Hence the name whisper boat . The electric drive motors are then fed from the batteries , whose capacity is sufficient for five hours of driving at a speed of 10 km / h. At the same time, the batteries are recharged by the solar cells , and also by the diesel generators during normal driving .
The boat has a double wheelchair lift, hydraulic crane for a wheelchair ramp , electric sliding doors and wheelchair-accessible toilets. All rooms are fully air-conditioned, the saloon offers space for 90 passengers. The galley offers hot and cold meals and drinks.

The boat has two hydraulically lowerable piles that can anchor the boat up to a depth of six meters. The upper part of the wheelhouse and the solar panel can be lowered hydraulically so that low bridges can be passed. The one-man control station is equipped with radar , GPS with digital maps and video surveillance . The salon is equipped with a video projector and a large screen.
