The Schaler Aa is a left tributary of the Große Aa .
It rises in the southeast of the Ankumer Höhe, east of the village of Merzen . In the upper reaches it is called Weeser Aa . From the border with the Hopstener district Halverde the name changes to Halverder Aa . On the spot she passes the Overmeyer oil and grain mill. It is one of the last remaining double mills in Westphalia . After flowing through the village of Halverde, it meanders along the Halverder Tannen towards the shell , where it joins the Wichholzer Aa. The river called Schaler Aa flows into the Große Aa in Freren .
Halverde oil and grain mill
The grain mill on the left in the direction of flow is driven by a Kaplan turbine . The typical mill wheel was exchanged for this drive many years ago. The oil mill is still powered by a water wheel. The technology is fully functional and designed as a technology museum. The grain mill is currently in the restoration phase. A mill pond is located in the upper water of the mill. About Umfluten flood can be guided past the mill side.
