Halvor Olai Birkeland (born October 30, 1894 in Austevoll , † June 26, 1971 in Bergen ) was a Norwegian sailor .

Halvor Birkeland, who for the Bergen Seilforening sailed, was in 1920 in Antwerp at the Olympic Games in the 12-meter class after the International Rule of 1907 Olympic champion . He was a crew member of the Atlanta , which participated as the only boat in its class. The Atlanta sufficient lack of competition in two races each reaching the goal to win the gold medal. The crew also included Birkeland's brother Rasmus Birkeland , Halvor Møgster , Lauritz Christiansen , Hans Næss and the brothers Ole , Jan , Kristian and Henrik Østervold . The latter was the owner and skipper of the Atlanta .
