Hamad Kalkaba Malboum (born November 11, 1950 in Kawadji ) is a Cameroonian sports official and since 2003 President of the African Athletics Federation .

biography

Hamad Kalkaba Malboum was born in Kawadji near the city of Kousséri in the north of the country and went to school there. He then lived in Maroua for four years before going to high school in Garoua . In 1969 he was drafted into the military and three years later graduated from the military school in Yaoundé . From 1972 to 1973 he attended the police school and from 1987 to 1988 and from 1994 to 1995 the officers' school (War College). In addition to his training, he was active as a track and field athlete as a sprinter and long jumper in the 1970s and also played handball. He also published some songs. After completing his active service in the military, he held the position of senior officer and between 1998 and 2010 worked as an advisor to the Cameroonian Ministry of Defense.

In addition to French and English, Kalkaba also speaks Arabic.

Sporty functions

Through his activities in the Cameroonian Armed Forces , Kalkaba Malboum was a Cameroonian delegate at the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) from 1976 to 1978 and became head of the Cameroonian delegation in 1979. He held this position until 2003. From 1992 he became part of the Board of Directors and in 1996 he was elected Vice President and served as President from 2010 to 2014. He was also President of the Organization of Military Sport in Africa (OSMA) between 1996 and 2010 .

In 1992 he founded the Cameroon Baseball & Softball Federation and is Honorary President there. In 1993 he became President of the Fédération camerounaise d'athlétisme and held this office until 2001. From 2002 to 2005 he was part of the Development Committee of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and since 2007 he has been part of the IAAF Council , responsible there as spokesman for the African continent and has also been Vice President for several years. Since 2001 he has been President of the Comité National Olympique et Sportif du Cameroun and since 2003 also President of the Confédération Africaine d'Athlétisme . He replaced the long-time President Lamine Diack from Senegal , who was elected President of the World Athletics Federation. Since 2009 he has held the office of Vice President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation and has been part of the Sports and Environment Commission of the International Olympic Committee since 2009 . In addition to this role, he has also been on the board of the Olympic Truce Foundation since 2011 .

In 2017, Kalkaba Malboum advertised the President of the World Athletics Federation (IAAF), Sebastian Coe , to host the World Athletics Championships in 2025 , which would then be held on the African continent for the first time, with Algeria , Egypt , Kenya , Morocco , Nigeria and South Africa as economic held strong enough to organize such a sporting event. Malboum has high hopes especially in Kenya, which successfully hosted the 2017 World Youth Championships with its capital, Nairobi .
