Horst Wünsch

Horst Wünsch (born May 29, 1934 in Graz ; † December 4, 2016 there ) was an Austrian lawyer and university professor . From 1968 to 2001 he was the director of the Institute for Commercial and Securities Law at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz . From 1983 to 1988 he was a member of the Graz municipal council and worked as such in the financial sector (budget and culture committee).

Life

Horst Wünsch was born on May 29, 1934 in Graz, where he grew up and received his school education. After attending elementary school, he went to the Bundesrealgymnasium Lichtenfelsgasse , where he passed his Matura in 1952 . Subsequently, he studied at the University of Graz jurisprudence and then began also studying political science . In November 1956 he received his first doctorate ; a year later he received his doctorate for the second time. After completing his court year in his hometown, he worked from 1960 to 1968 as a university assistant at the Institute for Civil Procedure Law and Commercial and Labor Law at his alma mater . During this period he was awarded the Theodor Körner Prize in 1965; In 1967 he received the Cardinal Innitzer Prize . On November 29, 1968, the then 34-year-old was appointed full professor and subsequently worked for more than three decades as a director of the Institute for Commercial and Securities Law at the University of Graz before he retired in 2001. From 1975 to 1977 he also appeared as dean of the Faculty of Law and, as the Faculty's construction officer, was significantly involved in the planning and implementation of the ReSoWi Center in Graz.

Parallel to his academic career, from 1978 onwards he was a member of the scientific advisory board of the non-university research institute for savings banks in Graz and was promoted to the board of directors just one year later. He also worked as a local politician in the Graz municipal council from 1983 to 1988, where he worked in the financial sector, among other things, and was a member of the budget and culture committee. Already in 1981 the author of the only Austrian manual on commercial law in four volumes was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class , for his extensive scientific work . In 1992, Wünsch was appointed to the regional supervisory board of Landes-Hypothekenbank Steiermark and remained in this position until 2004. From 1989 to 1999 he was also a member of the Savings Bank Council of Steiermärkische Sparkasse in Graz. Furthermore, he was chairman of the Graz Legal Society for a period of 30 years (from 1975) and was made an honorary member. On April 27, 1995 he was appointed citizen of the city of Graz .

Wünsch died unexpectedly on December 4, 2016 at the age of 82 in his hometown.
