Hamer is a Polish speed and thrash metal band from Karpacz , which was founded in 1985 under the name Hammer and disbanded in 1993. The group was also active from 2002 to 2003 and has been active again since 2012. In the meantime it was called Hämmer .

history

The band was formed in the spring of 1985. The first line-up change occurred in 1986. After another one in 1987, this line-up existed until it was dissolved in 1993. In 2002, Robert Koehler revived the band. The band was a finalist of the National Junior Song Review in Wroclaw and winner of the Rock Musicians Festival in Jarocin in 1986. In 1987 the band performed at Metalmania together with bands like Helloween , TSA , Turbo and Kat . The band was also heard for the first time on the split release Metalmania '87 . By 1990, the group also performed on every subsequent Metalmania. In addition, the band went on tour through the Czech Republic with Citron and on tour through Hungary with Wizard . In 1988, 1989 and 1990 the group released three albums with Hammer , Shermann and Terror . As a producer was Tomasz Dziubinski working for them. Shermann appeared on Poko Rekords . The album had the same cover as the debut album and contained seven of the eight songs on the debut, but in English . The members were given pseudonyms : The band consisted of the singer Snipe, the guitarists Micky and Funny, the bassist Chuck and the drummer Kliman. Terror also appeared in English on the German label Shark Records . The band name was then changed to Hämmer by using a heavy metal umlaut and the members were again given pseudonyms: the singer Robert Köhler was called Rob Keller, the guitarist Maciej Sawicz was named Mick Savage, the guitarist Jarosław Kopała was called Peter Poland, the bassist Robert Kuryś was Robert Joy and the drummer Dariusz Chmura was renamed Derek Cloud. After the release of the album Mind Crushing Mirror in 1993, the band broke up.

In 2002, the band briefly returned under the name Hämmer, released another album a year later under the name SCHH1 and disbanded again.

In 2012 the group was revived again. In May 2013 Robert Köhler left the band, whereupon the band changed its name slightly and is now called Hamer.

style

According to Mirko Schmat in the book Heavy Metal from Eastern Europe , the band plays classic Thrash Metal in the style of Overkill and Nuclear Assault from the period from 1988 to 1992 on the self-titled debut album . Terror dealt with war. According to classicthrash.com , the band plays classic thrash and speed metal on Shermann . The songs would vary in speed, but otherwise the songs would get by without any further special features. There are no significant differences on Terror compared to its predecessor apart from the better production. The songs are energetic, but not very memorable. According to thethrashmetalguide.com , the band is less experimental compared to other Polish thrash metal groups like Wolf Spider and Turbo. The music is full of energy and the guitar work on the self-titled debut album is technically quite demanding. Shermann offers sophisticated electric guitars, but the songs are now less fast and energetic. Even terrorist offer, similar to the debut album, technically challenging riffs . In the song Inside Looking Out , influences from funk and pop music can be heard. The following song, Monsters , again offers a mixture of speed and thrash metal, before the tempo with Angel's Wrath is slowed down again. Old Man offers a mix of fast and slow guitars. SCHH1 offers classic Thrash Metal with occasional technical excursions. According to Stefan Glas from Metal Hammer , the band plays on Terror Thrash Metal, which is intelligent and well arranged and is also played with force.
