Hammar is a locality ( tätort ) in the Swedish province County Örebro .
Geography, history and background
Hammar is located in the municipality of Askersund about 10 kilometers south of Askersund , the main town of the municipality, on the northern bank of Lake Vättern . Reichsstraße 50, also known as the Bergslag diagonals , runs southwest past the village.
Hammar belonged to Harde Sundbo until 1862 . In the course of the municipal reform of 1862 with the introduction of the first Swedish municipal code, the village became the seat of a municipality of the same name . This was reformed in the course of the modernization of the municipal administrative structure between 1952 and 1970 and finally dissolved with the transition to the municipality of Askersund at the beginning of 1971.
The location on the narrow lake of Vättern made Hammar an important place for traffic and goods transport through the establishment of a ferry. In 1828 there was a ferry accident in which 25 people were killed. Thirty years later the construction of a bridge over the water was completed.
Hammar was the seat of a glassworks between 1854 and 1992 . Among other things, Knoppflaska , the world's first standardized deposit beer bottle, was manufactured here from 1921 . The town, which has reported declining population numbers for years, is now mainly home to commuters . The local brewery is now one of the largest employers and, among other things, also fills various brands of well-known manufacturers of non-alcoholic beverages.
