Geography, history and background
Åsbro is located in Askersund municipality about 15 kilometers northeast of Askersund on the western shore of Lake Tisaren . Reichsstraße 50, also known as the Bergslag diagonals , leads past the village to the west.
Between 1905 and 2012, an impregnation plant was operated in the village that at times belonged to the Statens Vattenfallsverk . As a result, the soil is contaminated with arsenic and creosote and has been disposed of since 2016. In addition, a weapon-free military training was carried out in the village until 2008 , the corresponding facilities are now used for vocational training in the field of energy management. Åsbro, like the surrounding villages, is also characterized by the metallurgy and, in particular, the timber industry.
