The Hammer Luch near Löben is an extensive natural monument in the Löben district of the city of Annaburg in the Wittenberg district . Its area is about 2.2 hectares. It was designated as a large natural monument under the name Yellow Hole by the then Jessen District Council in 1965 with the decision 95/65 and is part of the FFH area number 74 - Annaburger Heide water system southeast of Jessen (Elster) .

Protection purpose

The protection purpose according to §28 BNatSchG is based on the preservation and securing of a natural body of water with an extensive siltation zone which is rarely found in the landscape unit Annaburger Heide - Schwarze Elster Valley .

description

Essential components of the natural monument are silting oxbow lakes from the Black Elster and an open water surface as part of the floodplain drainage.

fauna

The area offers ideal living conditions for the Elbe beaver . Amphibians such as the moor frog , common toad and crested newt are also native. The grass snake is often observed here. The area is used as a breeding ground for the moorhen , the reed warbler and the reed warbler.

flora

In silting area there are oak trees , alder and also Ulmus laevis . The ground vegetation is usually composed of grasses such as grass clown and giant fescue as well as land equestrian grass and common ball grass . Noteworthy plants that are endangered according to the Red List of the State of Saxony-Anhalt are the nodding two-toothed tooth , the pseudo cypress-sedge , the crayfish claw , the swamp blood-eye , the swamp calla and the fever clover .

Others

Before the Black Elster was regulated, today's Hammer Luch was part of the river system. It was also the site of a water mill until the 19th century . It is assumed that the name derives from an iron hammer that was formerly operated here . In addition to the turf iron stones that exist in this area, there is also regular cinder residue here , but no clear written mention has been made of the smelting of iron ore at this location.
