The Hammermühle (also Hammerschmiede) was a hammer mill in the Füttersee district of the municipality of Geiselwind in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen. Until the second half of the 20th century, the hammer mill was part of the municipality of Füttersee.

history

The place name of the mill is closely related to the technology used. Before the industrial revolution , water-powered hammer mills were widespread on the small rivers in Main Franconia . The hammer was powered by water power and could use more energy for blacksmithing. Perhaps the mill was part of the village of Effeltrich , which was abandoned in the 14th century. In this case, the mill would have existed before 1340.

The “Hammerschmitten” was first mentioned in a document in the 18th century. In 1724 the miller was called "ufm Effelt", Christoph Link. In 1733 the name “Effelt in der Hammerschmitten” appeared in the sources. After the place name "zu Effelt in der Mühl" was used again in 1735, the name "Hammer Mühl" appeared for the first time in 1748. The mill was assigned to the Ebrach monastery and paid interest to the Cistercian monks.

The abbey leased its beater mill to various millers. In the years 1752 and 1758 "Johann Gölner, molitor" (Johann Gölner, Müller) was mentioned. He sat in the "Hammer-mühl-hoff-häuslein". In 1760 the mill was located near Geiselwind. In the 18th or 19th century the plant received a grinder . In the documentation of the censuses , the place is mentioned for the last time in 1950 as a wasteland with six inhabitants. In 1961, the former community of Füttersee broke down the mill and the district was closed. In 1964 a Vitus from Nuremberg bought the desert and built a house there.

District

In 1871 the Hammermühle was part of the Bavarian rural community of Füttersee in the Scheinfeld district office in Middle Franconia . It was assigned to the parish and the Füttersee school and consisted of four buildings. In 1885 there was a residential building on site. The district was abolished after 1950.
