The Hampden Park (also First Hampden Park called) was a football stadium in the Scottish Glasgow . Between 1873 and 1883 it was the first of three homonymous home grounds of FC Queen's Park . It was also the site of the first Scottish Cup final in history, and seven others. It was the international venue for Scotland six times .

history

The FC Queen's Park , founded in 1867, built Hampden Park between the "Recreation Ground" where the club had played until then and "Hampden Terrace".

It was the first stadium with turnstiles in the UK. The opening game took place on October 25, 1873 in a 7-0 victory in the first round of the Scottish Cup against FC Dumbreck . The stadium hosted the first Scottish Cup final later that season , in which Queen's Park beat Clydesdale FC 2-0. In the years 1875 , 1876 , 1877 , 1878 , 1879, 1880 and 1883 it was also the final venue.

Moreover, six were in Hampden Park internationals from Scotland held. For the first time on March 2, 1878 in a 7-2 win over England .

In 1883, Queen's Park left Hampden Park due to plans by the Caledonian Railway to build the Cathcart branch across the site. Queen's Park moved a few hundred yards east to a new site they also called Hampden Park . (also Second Hampden Park ) This was occupied in 1884. In 1903, Queen's Park moved to what is now Hampden Park (Third Hampden Park), with the second Hampden being taken over by Third Lanark and renamed Cathkin Park .

On the site of the first Hampden Park there is now a railway line and a bowls club called the Hampden Bowling Club. In 2019, a mural was painted on the back wall of the clubhouse on the theme of Scotland's 5-1 victory over England in March 1882.
