geography
The river has its source in the center of the island in a narrow gorge on the north side of Mont Orohena (Pirae) and flows to the northwest, where it gives its name to the Residence Hamuta and the Stade Hamuta in Papeete . At Residence Hamuta, it enters the coastal plain, crosses the municipality of Pirae , where it also passes the municipal administration complex (Mairie de Pirae, ⊙ ) and flows into the Pacific at Aora'i Tini Hau . The mouth is not even 200 m east of the mouth of the Fautaua (river) . The catchment area of the Nahoata connects further to the east .
