Han Ying-chieh
Han Ying-chieh ( Chinese 韓英傑 ; * 1927 in Shanghai , China , † 1991 in Hong Kong , China) was a Chinese actor who played mostly in martial arts and kung fu films. His most famous role was that of Hsiao Mi in the movie The Death Fist of Cheng Li . He also worked as a stunt performer and combat choreographer.
Life
At the age of three, Han moved to Beijing , where he joined the Peking Opera at the age of nine and stayed there until he was eighteen. In 1946 he moved to Shanghai, where he made his debut as a stuntman in the film industry at the age of 19 . The next year he temporarily turned his back on film to practice martial arts .
Han later went to Hong Kong, where he joined the Shaw Brothers . He worked there as a stuntman and choreographed fights. He also appeared in a supporting role in some of the films, which made him better known. In 1966, when Han left the Shaw Brothers and went to Taiwan, he met the director King Hu , with whom he often worked. In 1970 he returned to Hong Kong. There he joined Golden Harvest , where he eventually played his best-known role alongside Bruce Lee in The Death Fist of Cheng Li , directed by Lo Wei . In 1972, he again starred opposite Bruce Lee and directed by Lo Wei in Death Greetings from Shanghai . Han continued filming with Lo Wei for a while.
Han died in 1991 in Hong Kong to cancer .
