Since the merger with Orange Sky Entertainment in 2009, Golden Harvest's business area has increasingly focused on film sales , distribution and as a cinema operator - Golden Harvest Cinema - 嘉禾 院線 - on the regional Chinese film market .
history
The company was founded in 1970 by the former employees of the Shaw Brothers studio Raymond Chow ( 鄒文 懐 / 邹文怀 ), Leonard Ho ( 何冠昌 ) and Leung Fung ( 梁 風 / 梁 风 ), who knew each other from the company. Other partners were the actor Wang Yu and the directors Lo Wei and Huang Feng . With their concept of support from independent producers, generous pay for actors, and greater creative freedom, the company has had great success. Many actors left the Shaw Brothers to work at Golden Harvest. In 1971 Bruce Lee signed a contract with the studio. In 1973 Golden Harvest produced the Bruce Lee film " Enter the Dragon " with the Hollywood studio Warner Brothers , which became a worldwide success. In the late 1970s, Golden Harvest became the dominant studio in Hong Kong and held that position until the 1990s. The greatest asset was the production of almost all of Jackie Chan , Asia's greatest martial arts star . Jet Li and Donnie Yen were also later produced. In 1994 the company was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (SEHK). In 2007, Raymond Chow sold his shares to the Chinese businessman Wǔ Kèbō ( 伍克波 ), the owner of the Orange Sky Entertainment Group ( 橙 天 娛樂 集團 / 橙 天 娱乐 集团 ). In 2008 "Orange Sky" held 89.06% of the shares in the company "Golden Harvest" and became the company's largest shareholder. In 2009, Golden Harvest merged with Orange Sky and since then has operated as Orange Sky Golden Harvest , OSGH for short ( 橙 天 嘉禾 嘉禾 集團 有限公司 / 橙 天 嘉禾 娱乐 集团 有限公司 , 橙 天 嘉禾 for short ) on the film market and in show business .
