In the first half of the 20th century, hand water pumps in the municipality of Nörvenich were still in operation in the towns of the municipality of Nörvenich in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Düren .

General

The wells, from which water was pumped with hand water pumps , were called Pötz in dialect . The first hand water pumps probably replaced the draw wells around 1880. The plumber Franz Geusen, who was born in Embken around 1857 , installed the then modern device, the hand water pump, in Nörvenich and the neighboring towns. In each place there was one or more of these pumps, which were simply placed at the deepest point in the place, because you could get to groundwater more quickly and you had to build a not so high well shaft. Less emphasis was placed on hygiene , because the pumps were often located near dung heaps or sewers .

From 1908 the first water pipes were put into operation in the villages . Binsfeld , Frauwüllesheim , Rath and Wissersheim were pioneers .
