Hanna Damásio (born September 24, 1942 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese - American neuroscientist and professor emeritus in California.

Live and act

Damásio graduated in medicine in 1969, did his doctorate in Lisbon and then studied cognitive neuroscience with Norman Geschwind at the Aphasia Research Center in Boston. After the Carnation Revolution , it was initially supposed to take over an essential university research area, which, however, could not be financed. She then became Professor of Psychology and Neurology at the University of Southern California and heads the Dornsife Neuroimaging Center there. She is also doing research at the Salk Institute in La Jolla . Until 2005 she was Professor of Neurology at the University of Iowa .

With the help of computed tomography and MRI , Damásio develops methods to examine the structure of the human brain and to explore functions such as language , memory and emotion .

She is married to the neuroscientist António Damásio .
