Hannes Schopf

Hannes Schopf (* 1947 ; † April 10, 2020 ) was an Austrian journalist and temporarily editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Die Furche . He was a member of the Austrian Press Council and spokesman for the Association of Austrian Newspapers .

Schopf initially worked for the Österreichische Bauernbündler (today the Österreichische Bauernzeitung ). Then he switched to furrow, for which he worked for a total of 15 years. Schopf was editor-in-chief of Furche from 1984 to 1994 . He took a clearly Catholic line. But he was also critical of conservative tendencies in the church. Until 2015 he was the spokesman for the Association of Austrian Newspapers.

After a ski holiday in Ischgl in spring 2020, Schopf showed signs of a COVID-19 disease. He died of consequences on Good Friday at the age of 72.
