The Auf der Bult Children's and Young People's Hospital is a hospital in Hanover that specializes in the treatment of children and young people . It is the teaching hospital of the Hannover Medical School and is located in the Bult district . More than 50,000 young patients are cared for and treated each year. Integrated into the hospital are the largest diabetes center for children and adolescents in Germany, the severe burn injuries center for children, the epidermolysis bullosa center and the only day clinic for children and adolescents in Hanover.
history
In 1863, the citizens of Hanover established a foundation with the aim of creating a children's sanatorium. This was for a long time in the Zoo district .
The school for health and child care was founded 80 years ago and attached to the hospital.
After IBM's plans to build a transistor factory on the site of the former horse racing track on the Bult in the early 1970s, the children's hospital on the Bult was later built on this site. It started operations on August 1, 1983.
The Hannoversche Kinderheilanstalt Foundation is still responsible for the children's hospital and other facilities for children and adolescents.
In 1999 the “Teen Spirit Island” therapy station was opened, in which children and young people with addiction problems, mainly drug addiction, but also internet or computer addiction, are treated.
In 2003 a multidisciplinary day clinic for children and adolescents was set up in the children's hospital on the Bult, with 11 treatment places for predominantly chronic diseases and disabilities.
The hospital hit national headlines after an incident in April 2014. A boy died in infancy after his mother, according to her own statement and on the grounds that she could not show a referral slip, was turned away in the clinic's emergency room. The child died a short time later. The hospital itself denies having turned the mother away. The criminal investigation department started an investigation that was eventually closed. The forensic medical examination showed that “it cannot be ruled out that the child was already dead when the mother appeared with him at the clinic”.
