Hanns Leiner ( Johannes Friedrich Leiner , born June 12, 1930 in Munich ; † December 20, 2014 in Augsburg ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and author .

Life

Hanns Leiner studied Protestant theology and philosophy in Neuendettelsau , Erlangen , Heidelberg and Gettysburg / Pennsylvania . From 1956 to 1959 he was an assistant at the Augustana University in Neuendettelsau and then until 1965 a Protestant pastor at the Johanneskirche in Taufkirchen (Vils) . From 1965 to 1995 he taught Protestant religion at the Holbein-Gymnasium in Augsburg .

He was chairman of the theological committee of the Bavarian Society for Inner and Outer Mission within the meaning of the Lutheran Church and was active in the Working Group of Christian Churches in Germany (ACK). During his professional career, he published many specialist and press articles. In retirement he intensified his publishing activities in the magazine Idea-Spektrum , in the information letter of the confessional movement 'No other gospel' and in the magazine CA Confessio Augustana of the Society for Internal and External Mission in the sense of the Lutheran Church e. V.

In his books he dealt with current theological issues from a pointed Evangelical-Lutheran perspective. In 1999, for example, he took a negative position on the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, and in Darwinian year 2009 wrote positively about the compatibility of Darwinism and Christian faith. In his main work "Luther's Theology for Non-Theologians" he tried to make Martin Luther's thinking and work understandable to a broad readership.

Hanns Leiner lived and worked in Augsburg, was married and had four children. In its obituary, the Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung writes : He relentlessly criticized the undesirable developments in a "feel-good and happiness church", but never in a hateful or polemical manner, but with the heart of a lover.
