Hanns Ullstein jun. (Born January 28, 1937 in Leipzig ) is a German horse breeder , specialist author and pioneer of trail riding and species-appropriate horse keeping .

Life

Hanns Ullstein jun. is a half-brother of the internationally successful German-Italian tennis player Annalisa Bossi (birth name: Annelies Ullstein) from the late 1930s to the early 1950s . The two siblings come from a branch of the Ullstein publishing family who ran a paper wholesaler in Leipzig in the 19th and 20th centuries and a specialty paper factory in Lichtenberg (Upper Franconia) . To distinguish it from his father of the same name, Hanns Ullstein always uses the term "junior" .

Ullstein is a paper and industrial engineer , but decided early on not to continue the family tradition. Since the 1960s he gradually developed his hobby into a profession and gradually became a horse specialist. Since 1983 he has been pursuing his diverse projects on the Wildschwaige estate near Oberding , which he has leased , a former test facility of the Weihenstephan Science Center of the Technical University of Munich . Ullstein holds numerous patents, particularly in the fields of horse keeping and feeding, and has introduced a rating for horse keeping (stable stars) . He founded trail riding in Germany and was the first chairman of the First Trekking Club Germany e. V. after it was founded in 1966. Herbert Fischer, “German Wanderer Pope” and founder of the German Wanderreiter Academy, calls Ullstein his “spiritual mentor”.

Ullstein is a pioneer in keeping horses in loose stables and in 1989 he founded the playpen-work community for species-appropriate horse keeping (LAG), of which he was chairman until 2005. The horse husbandry catalog created and distributed by him is aimed at practitioners and appeared in a fundamentally revised version for the first time in 1996 and most recently in 2012. Ullstein is married for the second time and has four children.
