Hanover is a city on the Ohio River in the state of Indiana in the United States . It was founded in 1809 by Williamson Dunn and was originally called Dunn's Settlement . Williamson Dunn's house - Hanover's first building - still exists and stands on the corner of Locust Street and 1st Street.

The fictional bartender Woody Boyd from the comedy series Cheers comes from Hanover. The actor Woody Harrelson , who played Woody Boyd, studied at Hanover College .
