Hans-Christian Reiche

Hans-Christian Reiche (born October 20, 1944 in Delitzsch ) is a former officer of the NVA and the last head of the Land Forces Command of the NVA.

Life

The son of a locksmith joined the armed forces after graduating from high school . From 1963 to 1966 he studied at the officers' school of the land forces . After graduation, he served as a platoon leader in the 7th NCO training regiment. Reiche joined the SED in 1967 . From 1969 to 1972 he was platoon leader, then company commander and main subject teacher at the NCO II "Kurt Bennewitz" in Eilenburg. This position was followed by studies at the "Frunze" military academy in the Soviet Union . After graduation with "distinction" as Dipl.rer.mil. Reiche served as deputy commander and chief of staff in the 24th motorized rifle regiment from 1976 to 1979 , before he was deputy chief of staff in the 4th motorized rifle division from 1979 to 1981 . This position was followed by the service as deputy commander and chief of staff of the 9th Panzer Division ( Eggesin ) from 1981 to 1984 . From 1984 to 1986 Reiche studied at the General Staff Academy of the USSR . After completing his studies with "distinction" as a graduate military scientist, Reiche served until 1987 as deputy chief of the staff for operational work in the command of military district V ( Neubrandenburg ). From November 1, 1987 to October 31, 1989, he succeeded Franz Erdmann as the commander of the 9th Panzer Division. On October 7, 1989, Reiche was named major general. From November 1, 1989 to September 14, 1990 he was Deputy Chief of Military District V and Chief of Staff (successor to Hans-Georg Löffler ), before being entrusted with the management of the NVA's land forces from September 15 to October 2, 1990 has been. He was released from active service on October 2, 1990. He worked in the private sector until he reached retirement age.
