Hans-Dieter Hofmann

Hans Dieter Hofmann (born September 24, 1947 in Beierfeld ; † November 26, 2019 in Radebeul ) was a German church lawyer and from 1990 to 2009 President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Office of Saxony .

Hofmann, who became a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor in 1958 (and was interested in church music throughout his life), passed his Abitur at the Dresden Kreuzschule. He completed his subsequent training at the Leipzig Church Community Association in 1969 with the second administrative examination. In the following year he moved to the church council office in Leipzig and completed part-time training for higher ecclesiastical administration. He completed his legal clerkship in 1981 with the second legal examination and then became legal advisor in the regional church office for internal mission (Radebeul) . After moving to the regional church office in 1983, he headed the finance department as senior church councilor. In autumn 1989 the Saxon regional synod elected him president of the regional church office; he thus succeeded Kurt Domsch .

Hofmann helped shape the unification of the GDR church federation with the EKD and the re-entry of the Saxon regional church to the VELKD, a special highlight here was the signing of the Evangelical Church Treaty of Saxony on March 24, 1994. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Frauenkirche Foundation and thus accompanied the Reconstruction of the Frauenkirche Dresden .

The funeral service was held in the Radebeul Luther Church; the funeral took place at the Radebeul-Ost cemetery .
