Hans-Dietrich Maronde

Hans-Dietrich Maronde (born September 27, 1934 - † February 13, 2016 ) was a German geologist.

After graduating from high school, Maronde initially worked for two years as a field laboratory assistant (sampler) for the Deilmann company in Bad Bentheim . From 1957 he studied geology at the University of Cologne and from 1960 at the University of Göttingen , where he received his diploma in 1963 ( on geology in the north-west of Bad Lauterberg ) and received his doctorate in 1968 under Erich Bederke ( geological investigations in the Silurian-Devonian border area of ​​the south-west Resin ). He then worked for the Federal Soil Research Institute in Thailand. He had been with the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft since 1972 and there from 1977 under Franz Goerlich as a specialist in the field of geosciences 2 with an office in Bonn. He was significantly involved in various major geoscientific projects such as the Continental Deep Drilling Program of the Federal Republic of Germany (KTB), the Ocean Drilling Program , the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) and Europrobe, where he chaired the Management Committee from 1992 to 1999. In 1999 he retired.

In 1999 he received the Abraham Gottlob Werner Medal from the German Mineralogical Society . In 2000, the Walter Kertz Medal was awarded by the German Geophysical Society . In 2001 he became an honorary member of the Geological Association . He was on the advisory board of the Palaeontological Society , of which he was an honorary member, and from 2000 to 2005 on the board of directors of the Senckenberg Natural Research Society . From 2002 to 2007 he worked at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research as Senior Advisor in EU matters. He was also active as a consultant for the German Society for Mineral Oil and Coal . Hans-Dietrich Maronde died on February 13, 2016 of a heart attack.
