Hans-Ekkehard Bob

Hans-Ekkehard Bob (born January 24, 1917 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † August 12, 2013 there ) was a German Air Force officer during the Second World War and later an entrepreneur.

Hans-Ekkehard was the son of the leather manufacturer Karl Bob and his wife Luise. He spent his childhood as the only son with four sisters in Staufen im Breisgau . He began gliding as a high school student and successfully passed the Abitur examination in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1936. He then joined the Air Force as an officer candidate and was trained as a pilot there. In 1938 Bob was promoted to lieutenant and transferred to Fighter Wing 334.

Second World War

During World War II, Bob was used on various fronts and in senior positions. So he flew u. a. in the well-known fighter squadrons 51 and 54 . Towards the end of the war he was retrained on the then revolutionary Messerschmitt Me 262 , the world's first operational and mass-produced jet aircraft .

Bob ended the war in the rank of major after around 700 missions and scored 60 aerial victories.

post war period

After the end of the war, Hans-Ekkehard Bob initially got by as a forwarder for small transports. After the currency reform in 1948 he carried out some transports for a drilling machine company. Because of this contact, Bob got into the production of drilling machines himself and founded his own company in 1956, Bomag Bohrmaschinen und Geräte GmbH. & Co. KG in Celle . Due to the order situation, work was carried out worldwide. In the early 1990s he sold his company and retired on business.

Hans-Ekkehard Bob resumed aviation as a private pilot and was one of the co-founders of the Celle Aviation Association in the 1950s . Even at the age of 90 he could be found at the control stick himself.

Hans-Ekkehard Bob died on August 12, 2013 in his hometown of Freiburg im Breisgau.
