Hans-Henning von Alten

Hans-Henning von Alten (born August 9, 1890 , † May 3, 1947 ) was a major general in the German Wehrmacht in World War II .

Life

Von Alten came from the Lower Saxon noble family von Alten . After attending school, he completed an officer training course and took part in the First World War. After the end of the war he was accepted into the newly founded Reichswehr on January 19, 1919 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 1, 1934 . As such, from October 1, 1934 to October 15, 1935, he was in command of the 2nd Battalion of the Potsdam Infantry Regiment and was then assigned to the headquarters of Army Group 2 in Frankfurt am Main . After he was promoted to colonel on March 1, 1936 , he was initially commander of the guard troops between October 6 and June 23, 1937 and then from June 23, 1937 to June 1, 1939, commander of the Berlin Guard Regiment. He then acted as city commander of Koblenz between June 1, 1939 and August 1, 1940 and as field commander 610 from August 13, 1940 to January 25, 1941, before becoming city commander between January 25, 1941 and January 13, 1942 from Mulhouse in Alsace .

Afterwards von Alten was field commander 607 from January 13 to November 6, 1942 and as such was promoted to major general on February 1, 1942 . After a subsequent reserve position, he was Field Commander 1006 from August 15, 1943 until the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht on May 8, 1945. He was then taken prisoner of war , where he died on May 3, 1947.
