Hans-Jörn Brandenburg

Hans-Jörn Brandenburg (* 1957 in Bardowick ) is a German musician and composer .

Brandenburg studied music in Hanover and Hamburg , with a focus on school music and ethnomusicology. In the mid-eighties he was keyboard player for the Hamburg band Felix de Luxe . As musical director of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, he worked with the British band The Tiger Lillies and arranged the music for their stage program and CD The Gorey End . As a composer he created stage music for productions by directors such as Michael Bogdanov , Frank Castorf , Klaus Pohl , Michael Simon , George Tabori and Robert Wilson . In 1989 Wilson brought out The Black Rider at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg . Brandenburg was the musical director and musician in this production too. The music was written by Tom Waits , with whom he worked on the arrangements. In 2003 he worked with the American Wilson again as musical director of the production Leonce and Lena by Georg Büchner , which was presented in the Berliner Ensemble . This time the composer of the incidental music was Herbert Grönemeyer . Brandenburg's arrangements for this music are now also available on CD. In 2005 there was another work with Robert Wilson in the Berliner Ensemble. This time Brandenburg wrote the music for the Shakespeare production of Ein Wintermärchen himself and directed the band, which played live for the performance. Brandenburg played the piano, keyboards and percussion during the performance. In 2007 he was musical director for Robert Wilson's production of the Threepenny Opera, also at the Berliner Ensemble.

In April 2010, a highlight of the European Festival for Other Music Theater - OpenUp was the performance of the gala Heroes of the Opera , which was conceived by the puppet maker Suse Wächter and Brandenburg. The gala took place in the Neukölln Opera in Berlin.
