Hans-Jürgen Bömelburg

Hans-Jürgen Bömelburg (born May 30, 1961 in Höxter ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1982 to 1989, Hans-Jürgen Bömelburg studied history, German, Romance and Slavic languages ​​at the Universities of Münster , Besançon and Mainz . In 1992 he received his doctorate in Mainz with a thesis on the social and state changes during the transition from Royal Prussia, which belonged to Poland-Lithuania, to the Prussian province of West Prussia in the course of the partitions of Poland . From 1994 to 2003 he was a research assistant , head of the library and from 1999 to 2002 deputy director of the German Historical Institute in Warsaw . From 2004 to 2007 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Culture and History of Germans in Northeastern Europe in Lüneburg. In 2005 he completed his habilitation at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with Michael G. Müller on Early Modern Nations in Eastern Europe. Polish historical thinking and the scope of a humanistic national history (1500–1700) . In 2007 he was offered a professorship for the history of East Central Europe at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

Bömelburg is u. a. Co-Chairman of the Joint German-Polish Textbook Commission (since 2012), member of the Herder Research Council and the Commission for the History of Germans in Poland . He is also co-editor of the journal for East Central Europe research .

His research focuses on the history of the early modern period in East Central Europe and German-Polish relations as a whole.
