Hans-Jürgen Beug

Hans-Jürgen Beug (born January 18, 1932 in Hamburg ) is a German botanist and professor.

Hans-Jürgen Beug studied biology and botany at the University of Hamburg and the Georg-August University of Göttingen . In 1957 he received his doctorate with a work on vegetation history under Franz Firbas . He then worked at the Systematic Geobotanical Institute in Göttingen, among other things as curator of the herbarium . In 1963 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the late and postglacial vegetation history in the Lake Garda area .

From 1967 he taught at the University of Hohenheim and in 1969 followed a call to Göttingen, where, in addition to his professorship, he was dean , vice-rector , rector and vice-rector . Beug is co-founder of the working group on the history of vegetation of the Reinhold-Tüxen-Gesellschaft and was chairman of the working group until 2007. Beug retired in 1997.
