Hans-Jürgen Hafner

Hans-Jürgen Hafner (* 1972 in Freystadt ) is a German art critic and curator .

Hans-Jürgen Hafner has been working as a freelance author, art and music critic since 2000 and has been a curator since 2004.

He published, among others, in art magazines such as Camera Austria , Spike Art Quarterly , texts on art . Since 2004 he has been organizing exhibitions of contemporary art and has shown mostly thematic exhibitions at the kunstbunker forum for contemporary art in Nuremberg, the Brandenburg Art Association in Potsdam and for the Berlin art fair Art Forum.

From 2011 to 2016 Hafner was director of the art association for the Rhineland and Westphalia . There he showed exhibitions with, among others, Tim Berresheim , the inventor of concept art Henry Flynt , Charlotte Prodger , Josephine Pryde , Rosa Sijben , Dominik Sittig , Walter Swennen and Stefan Wissel . A focus of his journalistic and curatorial work are topics related to painting and the history of painting. In 2014 at the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen he presented the solo exhibition Doktor Morgen neue Sorge borrowing by the Berlin artist and art critic Gunter Reski , with whom he had already shown the exhibition The Happy Fainting of Painting in the Berlin gallery Zwinger in 2012 , according to the gallery's press release, " put together ". An anthology published jointly by Hafner and Reski under the same title was published in 2014 as an “inventory of the current situation in painting” and especially its discourses in Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König, Cologne.

Trivia

In the short film Entropie (AT, 2012) by the artists Michael Franz and Nadim Vardag, Hafner can be seen as the actor. He also worked on the experimental documentary film Single , a joint project by Düsseldorf artist Alex Wissel and director Jan Bonny .
