Hans-Jürgen Imiela

Hans-Jürgen Imiela (born February 5, 1927 - † July 31, 2005 ) was a German art historian .

Live and act

Hans-Jürgen Imiela was in 1957 at the University of Mainz in Friedrich Gerke with a thesis on the portraiture of Lovis Corinth Dr. phil. doctorate and became an academic advisor at the Art History Institute. In 1975 he completed his habilitation. Hans-Jürgen Imiela taught as a professor at the University of Mainz and retired in 1992 . His main focus was on German painters, especially Max Slevogt , and the collection of Franz Josef Kohl-Weigand .

In 1987 Hans-Jürgen Imiela was awarded the Max Slevogt Medal together with Wilhelm Weber . The "Mainz Art Prize Eisenturm", which is awarded every two years by the Kunstverein Eisenturm Mainz, is awarded as the "Hans-Jürgen Imiela Memorial Prize".
